#11: The Rise of College Football
If you’re not a college football fan, you probably don’t “get it.” Why watch college-level sports when you can watch the professionals in the NFL? Well, college football wasn’t always a national pastime. Even though the sport has been around in one form or another since 1869, it didn’t get popular until almost a century later.
With the rise of national broadcasting in the 50s and 60s, television stations started airing college football games. People went wild over this form of entertainment. Over the decades, college football has developed into a sports subculture all its own. It’s full of rivalries, alliances, excitement, and heartbreak just like the NFL.
