Maryland – Flying and Stinging Insects
You’d think the deadliest creature in this state might be a ferocious, toothy beast, but according to the CDC, the humble stinging insect holds that title. It seems a tad surprising, given the relative scarcity of large predators here. Yet, bees and wasps, typically harmless if treated with respect, reign supreme. A word to the wise, especially if you’re allergic: don’t swat! Instead, retreat with grace and calm – your life could depend on it!

In a sensational turn of events in 2017, a mischievous schoolyard prankster sent his peers into a buzzing frenzy. After an ill-advised kick to a beehive, a swarm of angry bees descended upon 32 unsuspecting students. The buzzing onslaught was so intense that three students had to be rushed to the hospital, their bodies adorned with the angry welts of bee stings. It was a day of chaos, panic, and lessons learned the hard way.
