For anyone even slightly familiar with Jack Johnson, it shouldn’t really come as a surprise that he has a background in surfing. It isn’t as if basically all his songs are about beaches, shells, surfboards, and waves. I mean, the guy lives in Hawaii, and he’s pretty much the picture of your average surfer dude.

Having said that, I didn’t know that his interest in surfing had a professional angle to it. Honestly, though, this is one sporting injury that I’m pretty glad occurred. If Jack had stayed in surfing the world may never have gotten to hear such hits as “Banana Pancakes” and “Better Together”.
