#15: Dorothy’s Iconic Slippers Were Stolen
One pair of Judy Garland’s ruby slippers, created for The Wizard of Oz and considered one of Hollywood’s most valuable artifacts, was stolen from a museum in Minnesota in 2005. The theft happened overnight, and the slippers vanished without a trace, sparking years of speculation and investigation.

For over a decade, their whereabouts remained a mystery. In 2018, the FBI announced the slippers had been recovered after a long undercover operation. Their return was a major moment for film history fans, since only a handful of original pairs are known to exist.
