#33: Several Dangerous Stunts Were Performed Without Safety Gear
Many stunts in The Wizard of Oz were carried out long before modern safety regulations existed. Actors and stunt performers were expected to complete high-risk scenes—such as wire work, falls, and pyrotechnic moments—without helmets, padding, or protective harnesses that would be standard today. Injuries were common, though often kept quiet.

Because the production moved quickly and safety planning was minimal, performers relied mostly on luck and personal caution. Even simple scenes became dangerous when heavy costumes, hot lights, and unpredictable effects were involved. The lack of proper gear turned routine stunt work into another serious hazard behind the film’s magical appearance.
