#48: West Virginia
The West Virginia duo here appears to have just emerged from a cabin they built themselves, using tools inherited from their grandparents. His shirt features an obscure graphic that probably has something to do with Appalachian folklore, and her hair looks like it’s been wind-dried while hauling firewood.

They both radiate a frontier stoicism that says, “We don’t trust outsiders, but we’ll give you cornbread and directions anyway.” Yes, it’s the rugged, no-nonsense stereotype—but in the most respectfully badass way possible.
