Solange, never one to play it safe, arrived at the 2015 Gala in a Giles Deacon dress shaped like a metallic seashell fan. Dramatic? Absolutely. Wearable? Barely. The reflective silver structure swirled stiffly around her, resembling armor from a post-apocalyptic ballet.

While the Met welcomes boundary-blurring design, this one was too far out of orbit. Her face, stoic and powerful, gave the dress more gravitas than it deserved. Solange usually commands a room. Here, she looked like she was fighting to escape a high-concept satellite dish.
